Gossip9.lk News : The Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival organized by Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau under theme “Sri Lankan Hospitality 2003” was held in Negombo Beach with number of New Year customs and contests on last 27th. All guests were welcomed as per country’s traditions amidst Sinhala Cultural Dancing and beating Timbrels. The tourists participating the contests took part in kotta pora, tug war, blasting of balloons, climbing the grease tree, coconut scraping, and blind breaking of the pot etc. The event was jointly organized by Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau, tourists Board-WP, Negombo Hoteliers’ Association and Sri Lanka Tourism Media Personnel’s Association. Yeugenia Kotenko and Sorta Kilartse from Russia were crowned as New Year Tourist Prince and Princess at New Year Kumaraya (Prince) and Kumari (Princess) selection contest. source : 01
